Millions of Peaches, again!

Well, I'm back! And I am so sorry that I don't have a "Far Above Rubies" post for today - I was desperately tired last night so I decided I'd let those of you who haven't gotten up-to-date on the study to catch up! Next week we will resume! If we don't, you can pop me over the head!

We had a good week last week, in spite of a somehow injured shoulder that only got worse all week. I managed! Hubby finally came to my rescue and we had a really good time visiting family and friends. We even went to Starbucks with my brother and his wife, and two very good friends. Notice I didn't say Benjamin! He went home with my parents and they took care of putting him to bed and everything! It was so nice!

We had a really good VBS too! I'll tell you more about that some other time. I wanted to tell you about the Saturday before this past one. {Which was when Benjamin turned 17 months old - I can't believe I didnt take his pictures or post a thing about him! I'm sorry! I'll make up for it in July!}

My parents came down that Saturday {the 19th} and we went to the Peach Festival. We went last year as well. I thought it was pretty neat that I was able to get a picture of Benjamin a complete year later. Check it out:

and this year.

Big difference!

We did more of the same though this year we took containers for our Peach Cobbler instead of just getting small bowls. We stood in line in the heat for some of the World's Largest Peach Cobbler:

Can you tell Dad wasn't too impressed?

He did NOT want to go into the foam!

It was fun, but it was really hot, and I'm not sure it was totally worth it. Especially since apparently the peach cobbler wasn't very good in the first place. {What do you expect - it was mixed in trashcans...}

Interested in making a gigantic peach cobbler? Here you go...

WORLD'S LARGEST PEACH COBBLER
75 Gallons slice fresh Georgia Peaches
150 pounds of self-rising flour
150 pounds of sugar
32 gallons of milk
90 pounds of butter
Divide self-rising flour, sugar and milk into six equal parts and pour into six clean trashcans. Mix thoroughly with clean boat paddle. Sizzle 90 pounds of butter in a 5 ft. x 11 ft. baking pan six inches deep. Pour in batter then add 75 gallons of sliced peaches. Bake at 350 degrees for about four hours until golden brown. If you can't get fresh or fresh frozen peaches, you better be prepared to open a lot of giant cans of peaches.

Enjoy.... ha!

Benjamin had a great time yesterday at Lane's Southern Orchards with Grandmommy and Uncle Preston. Uncle Preston is such a great Uncle. He was teaching Benjamin how to jump, and they had so much fun!

Here are a few different shots from the day:

Lane's has some of the best peaches in Georgia, I'd reckon!

We had such a great time, and we'll probably be back next weekend too!

Do you have any special places that you like to go to in your town? I hope you're all having a great weekend! Tomorrow is going to be busy for us as we're participating in a yard sale {we need to get rid of a lot!}, and I have Ladies Bible class, and THEN - the Annual Peach Festival! I am really excited for all three events! You'll be seeing more peaches in the near future, y'all!

Millions of Peaches...

Today was THE day. We went to the Georgia Peach Festival (which had been going on for a week already) in the town that we live in, Fort Valley, Georgia. We were there for one reason, and one reason alone: The World's Largest Peach Cobbler. We are in the book of records, no kidding.

Anyway, we walked around because we got there an hour before it was served. It was so hot. I almost called it quits. I'm not a huge cobbler-eater, anyway (I know, I know, what kind of Southern Girl am I? Would you believe that I have never eaten Apple Pie?). So I'm thinking what cobbler is worth standing in the heat for? We got in line 20 minutes before they served it. This is what we stood behind:

It was hot. There was barely any shade. Oh man.

The line got moving once they started serving. We finally got a glimpse of the legendary dessert:

Huge, I know. And is it supposed to look like that? I don't know. Like I said, I am not a huge cobbler fan. Haha. "Huge" Cobbler. I didn't do that on purpose.

Moving on.

So here's what it looked like in the bowls:

It didn't taste bad, really. I mean I didn't eat my bowl completely. But it wasn't bad.

Here are some more pictures from the festival.

Benjamin. Waaay too hot for the baby carrier.

We didn't have cash on us, so we bought nothing (ugh!).

And sadly that is all we took (besides at the birthday party we went to.... I will share those pictures later on. I don't want to break the Peach Festival mood just yet).

I know you are wondering how in the world you can make a giant peach cobbler! Don't worry your minds too much about googling this gigantic recipe! I have it right here!

Seriously folks, that is the recipe. Yes, you saw correctly. Trashcans. Boat paddle. Yes.

But, if you're not entertaining quite that large a crowd, or if you don't plan on eating peach cobbler for the next five years, try this recipe:

QUICK AND EASY PEACH COBBLER
2 cups sliced fresh Georgia peaches
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 stick of butter
Mix together 1 cup self-rising flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Melt butter in microwave oven and pour into empty disposable baking pan. Be sure butter is sizzling and then add batter mixture and top with fresh peaches. Bake at 350 until golden brown. If you can't get fresh or frozen peaches, use one large can of Georgia peaches.

There you have it. If you need more peach recipes, visit www.GAPeachFestival.com.

Hope you all had a blessed Saturday!

Oh, and the title is for my husband. He keeps up with this. :)

Genuine Georgia Peaches!

So today we finally got out and went to the peach farm down the road. And I gotta tell you, living in peach country is niiiiice. The farm had a packaging place right there with a shop which sold peaches, jarred goods, and best of all... homemade peach ice cream. That was definitely the highlight of my day. It was the best peach ice cream I had ever tasted. The fact that it is stinkin hot out today just added to it, I think. Ben had a small taste of ice cream, but I am definitely not going to allow him to have sweet stuff very often until he is older. I don't want to have a sweet-obsessed, overweight child because I allowed him sweets from infant up. He'll be one of those kids on Maury where the mother will say, "He just wanted the whole pizza, what was I supposed to do?"

I digress.

I didn't have my camera with me. The pictures following are from my phone. I can't wait to enjoy one of the genuine Georgia peaches!!

By the way, the Georgia Peach Festival is this Saturday here in Fort Valley, with the World's Largest Peach Cobbler. I am SO there.
