So Worth It.

There are so many things that I love about being a mommy. I don't mind (most of the time) getting up during the middle of the night to feed him. I don't mind being with him (almost) every waking moment. I don't mind the way he throws bibs all over the floor or unfolds the clothes I just folded and put in the laundry basket. Even though I may complain from time to time that I'm tired, or too busy to have to refold laundry, I really don't mind as much as I may say. I love being a mommy.

I am so blessed to be Benjamin's mommy.

I love combing my fingers through his thick, blonde hair. A lot of pictures depict him so that he looks as if he doesn't have a lot of hair, but he really, really does. I had really blonde hair like him when I was a baby as well, but he definitely got his thick hair from his daddy. It is so soft and fluffy and beautiful. I never want to cut it!

I love how happy and playful he gets at bathtime. He is just so pleasant and excited. Although bathtime is time he gets to spend with daddy, I do pop in to give a little help. Benjamin just loves to splash around and kick in the bathtub, not to mention his Bath Book and his Rubber Ducky.

I love how curious he is. No matter how many times I have to pull him away from something, or tell him, "No!" or pull him out of the kitchen after he has climbed the stairs and escaped, I love his little mind. He doesn't play as much as he explores, and I love to watch him discover something new. It was so exciting Sunday night when he climbed a whole flight of stairs. How many 8 month olds do you know who climb whole flights of stairs without falling? He is such a pro!

I love teaching his Bible Class. Even though he pitches a fit sometimes when I don't allow him to hold everything I take out for it, and even though it is sometimes hard to contain him, it is such a joy to see how excited he gets when he sees his Bible come out of the bag, or when he sees me bring out my bible. That, to me, is success already.

I love his sweet smile, his beautiful, contagious laugh. I love the way he stands up in his crib when he wants out, and how he so quickly goes from crying to laughing if you start up an impromptu game of Peek-A-Boo. I love the way he grins immediately as soon as he hears either of his two favorite songs: "My God is so Great" or "I Love You". I love the way he calms down when he hears his special song, "The Fox" by Nickel Creek, and the way he bobs along to the music when he hears it played. I love the way he "sings" in church services and the way he is so friendly with everyone else, even when he pretends that he's shy.

I love the way his sweet little voice sounds when he says, "Mama!"

It makes everything so worth it.

Hot Diggity Dog!

I don't know how I'm doing it, but somehow I am able to keep my eyes open long enough to make this post, and then I am going to pass out in bed and sleep for x amount of hours (x because, well, I have NO clue when Ben might wake up again.). I wish he stuck to a schedule. Right now the only schedule he seems to stick to is actually going to bed around 8:30. I'm not sure why I am so exhausted tonight, but it could be because I had reverted back to my old schedule the past few days, which is a big no-no after getting used to going to bed earlier. Shame on me.

Anyway, this week has been a week of firsts for Benjamin. It has been so exciting. We decided Monday that Benjamin was old enough (at 8 months old - wow) to start eating BIG big boy food.

That morning, we started out by giving him big boy oatmeal (strawberries and cream, and lower sugar, if you were wondering. I'm a bit particular about his sugar and salt intake).

Can't you tell he enjoyed it?

Mmm!

So pleased!

My parents had come down for a short visit, and took us out to eat at Moe's ("Welcome to Moe's!"). Benjamin got a Mini Masterpiece (quesadilla) and, as you can see, he loved it:

(Not to mention the TV that was playing over our table)

Then came spaghetti (yes, I know, isn't spaghetti supposed to be first, like every other baby?!):

Lastly, the hotdog!

"Don't mind if I do!"

He really enjoyed it.

He is SO goofy.

What a sweet hotdog smile!

Good week? Yeah, I'd say so. Tomorrow we have a dinner party to go to (I know, that sounds so sophisticated!) and I am pretty excited about that.

Now, if I could only find a way to keep Ben from wanting to climb all over me every waking moment (so I can actually get stuff done!) ...

It's time to start thinking about pumpkin pie.

I have never made a pie. I have never actually liked pie until very recently, and now that it is fall, and since I love all things pumpkin, it's time to start thinking about pumpkin pie. I was saving my pumpkin for some pumpkin bread, but I have a strong desire to make a pie - I just could not wait! So I have the pie crust (not brave enough to make one from scratch just yet) and all I need is the whipped cream for the top and we'll be set to make and eat our pumpkin pie. I'll let you know how that goes.

Why, though?

Because it is the first day of Fall!

I love Fall. It is such a beautiful, pleasant season. Maybe it's because I was born in November. I just love the weather, the way it cools down so pleasantly and how the leaves start changing on the trees. I love the thought of fall festivals and jumping into piles of freshly-raked leaves. The sights, the smells ... everything about it is just wonderful.

A couple days ago I took Benjamin outside to take some pictures, and although it was still summer then, I think we got a little foretaste of the impending season:

It's extra exciting because it's My Pumpkin's first Fall! We're going to have to think up some fellowship activity here, a Fall Festival of some sort, and perhaps make it annual. Sometime in October would be nice ... Any ideas?

I'm so excited about the weather cooling down [hopefully really soon] and about all things pumpkin! Especially watching my little pumpkin learn so much during his first Fall!

Benjamin, You Are 8 Months Old!

I can't believe you are 8 months old today, Benjamin! You have grown so much in just one month, I can't believe it! You already have five teeth! Three on the bottom, and two on the top! You are really good at chewing your food and love animal crackers and graham crackers, not to mention anything that comes off mommy and daddy's plate (except for mashed potatoes - I don't know where you get that from!). I know you must weigh over 20 pounds (you are breaking Mama's back!) and you already fit into some of your 9 month clothes. You are just growing like a weed! Everyone still talks about your beautiful blue eyes, and your precious blonde hair.

You are now pulling up, standing up, and even cruising a little bit along the furniture! You climb stairs like it's nobody's business and grin around with such a proud look on your face when you make it to the kitchen or to the laundry room! It gives Mommy a heart attack, but she is letting you explore for a while anyway. You sometimes crawl on your hands and knees but usually end up army-crawling. You've taken a few spills but nothing our tough boy can't handle!

You are a mess! Into everything and curious about everything! You love to watch people and see what they are doing, and you are always getting into something! You love music and sing in church and in the car sometimes, and bob your little body to the music when daddy plays it at home. You get really excited when Mommy takes your little blue bible out for Bible class, and that makes Mommy really happy! You just love being around people and playing with everyone.

You truly are a bright child and such a sunbeam in our life here! You brighten up the day and make us laugh. You are so affectionate and love to give Mommy and Daddy kisses, and sometimes you give them to others, as well. You don't mind going to the nursery without Mommy and Daddy, but you are so happy when they return to get you, too. Everyone always comments on what a good baby you are and how happy you always seem to be! Thank you for acting nicely in public!!

We can't wait to see what you do this next month! Try to hold off on walking, okay? At least for a little while longer! I don't think Mommy is ready for that just yet!

Oh, and of course, you are a Georgia Bulldawgs Fan!

Goooooo Dawgs!!
