Squeaky Clean

I am taking a quick break from scheduling our busy Saturday to bring you all a "squeaky clean"* picture of Benjamin about to get squeaky clean.

*Only partial baby nudity, y'all.

Sometimes Benjamin makes me a little nervous around the Bathtub. You know how hard it is to actually go to the bathroom when you're watching a baby by yourself, right? Well occasionally it will be the case that I either take Benjamin with me, leave him downstairs alone where he can get into all sorts of mischief, or wait till my bladder explodes. I never wait for the third option, and very rarely go for the second. So I have to take Ben with me. And if I don't occupy him immediately with his favorite bathtub book, he goes straight for the tub. I'm just afraid that one of these days he's going to climb right in and hurt himself - or worse, jump in at bath time before we can get a hold of him.

That kid is a true water baby.

Right down to the blonde hair and the blue eyes.

Anyway, I have been busy mapping out our day. Tomorrow we have a portrait session at 3:15, which should be super fun. I am really looking forward to it!

Meanwhile, Kristen is distracted by her cousin's wedding album on Facebook, featuring Benjamin meeting his Second Cousins for the first time, which turn out to be really adorable pictures ...

Ahem.

I have also been planning out what Benjamin is going to wear beneath his costume tomorrow. I don't want anything too hot, but I don't want his legs and arms bare because I didn't bother washing the costume beforehand (shame on me - with a baby of sensitive skin!). We had gotten Benjamin a bodysuit that says "Baby's First Halloween" from Target a while back for him to wear, as it has become a sort of tradition to buy Benjamin an outfit for each occasion to put in a memory box for him later. I made the stupid mistake of washing this white bodysuit with a bright red dishrag, and now there are pink spots on the arm and chest area. Ugh! I tried to get the stains out but unfortunately they were dried in.

Good thing I have photo editing software, am I right?

Also:

In THREE days.

I need to go get a bag ready for tomorrow. I hope you all have a safe and fun Halloween tomorrow, if you are celebrating, and if not - Have a wonderful weekend anyway!

Ham.

Can I just take a moment to say how amazing you guys are? You step up to the plate, ready to hit your knees and go to God in prayer when prayers are asked for. It's wonderful and heartwarming to know that so many people care. I haven't had an update on Lyndsay lately, but Heather, her sister, wanted me to thank you all for praying for her sister and her family. It means a lot to her, it really truly does.

Thank you so much! And keep them coming!

-------

I have been busy today, y'all! I am trying so hard to get my house clean before next Saturday, when we are having a little get together at our house with many friends (hopefully!) and possibly my parents as well! I know, I know ... it should be clean already! But you know how things are with a newborn (and for you pregnant ladies with your first - you will!). It is hard for me now to clean especially as I watch Mariah during the week as well. But I am trying hard to get in the swing of things and hopefully soon we will have things under control (for once?).

Today we tackled three baskets of laundry that had been sitting in our laundry room to be folded. I hate folding laundry. It just seems like it is neverending. Right now the washer is going as I strip all my diapers down to get all the residue from the detergent out - you see, Ben has been getting sores down yonder and they get better for a time and then come back - so it could very well be the detergent we've been using. He has such sensitive skin, and poor little thing got it from me! My skin is just as bad - if not worse!

So tonight Ben sleeps in a disposable diaper. For the first time since ... March? Or maybe April? I can't remember.

-------

Saturday we are going out to buy the necessary items to put together a coupon binder. Yes, folks, that's right! I am starting my journey with Couponing. I am very excited about it, actually. My dear, dear kindred spirit Autumn has gotten me into it and I've already had a dream about it. So I guess that means my mind is committed! haha.

We spent a good deal of time today clipping coupons and ... I actually ... enjoyed it! My mom has used coupons for years and years and I was always thinking "Oh no, here come the coupons" ... but when Autumn told me she had only had to pay less than $21 on a bill that would have been over $113 without coupons at Target ... okay, that totally sold me. So you may have noticed the links on the sidebar to coupon and saving sites. Really that is for my benefit, but yours as well if you'd like to check them out!

-------

Benjamin and I spent some time together tonight while Hubby was out at a meeting. We had a really good time. I enjoy spending alone time with Benjamin, as long as he behaves! And he did this time!

I tell you, he is such a ham ...

I really shouldn't be up so late! I am about to head to bed. I just realized that tomorrow (or, today if you want to be technical) is Friday! That ends my day (early morning) on a very happy note!

And, since I keep forgetting to mention it and I will probably continue to forget (thank you Mommy Brain + Holidays + Exhaustion): My birthday is Monday!

With a big: Hurrah! for prayers being answered, houses getting clean(ish), coupons being clipped, money being saved, precious boys being hams, tomorrow being Friday, and Monday being my birthday, I leave you all! Good night!

Papaw's Guitar

UPDATE ON LYNDSAY:

Friends, your prayers are working! Keep them coming! The fluid is off of Lyndsay's lungs and she is breathing without the breathing tube! Praise God! Please, continue to pray as Lyndsay is not out of the woods yet. But as you can see, your prayers are working. Please, keep them coming.

To read more about Lyndsay's condition, please check out this post.

-------

It's been over two years since my Papaw died of skin cancer that had spread to his liver. You can read my post where I remembered him this past July 5th here. Anyway, one of the things I remember about him every time I see the guitars in my house or my mom and dad's is the fact that my Papaw was a great musician. He played the guitar and was taking dobro lessons. He passed his talents on to my dad and then on to my brother. Me, I got the short stick, it seems, with no musical talents to speak of, save some clarinet skills and a bit of singing. Other than that... total loss.

Anyway, when my brother and I were growing up, our Papaw gave us a guitar and said we could keep it if we learned how to play. Steven, my brother, did learn and is pretty much a master of any instrument he picks up.

I tried to learn. I really did. But I'm just not good, and I have baby hands (seriously, they are tiny) that hardly fit around the neck.

I got married a little over a month after Papaw passed away. When I was packing stuff to move to Memphis, Tn, I asked my dad if I could take the Samick Papaw had given to us. He said I could.

Yesterday, Benjamin discovered it propped up in the corner of the room. He leaned against the amp as he stretched to pluck the strings, and he would stare at it in sheer wonderment. I had to take pictures - and I was looking at them last night and realized that I cherish these pictures beyond what I had thought before. I thought I was just capturing Benjamin playing with an instrument in the corner - but what I had really caught was Benjamin interacting with my Papaw in a way. Does that make sense?

Benjamin, I wish so much that you could have known my Papaw. You would have loved him. And he would have loved you so much, his first great-grandchild.

And now my heart hurts ...

URGENT PRAYERS NEEDED!

UPDATE:

The family just found out that Lyndsay also has congestive heart failure. PLEASE CONTINUE PRAYING! It is IMPERATIVE that you pray for this new mother!!!!

UPDATE:

Latest Update from Heather: "They've had to put her on a breathing tube. She was having difficulty breathing on her own." Please continue praying!! I will continue updating this post for you guys so check back, okay? Thanks so much for the prayers!!

ORIGINAL POST:

I know I JUST did a prayer request post (see my last post if you didn't already) - but this is urgent and deserves it's own post for the urgency.

My good friend Heather has a sister who just gave birth on Saturday to a sweet baby boy - Seth. Heather just sent me a message saying that her sister was having trouble breathing so their mom took her to the hospital and she was admitted for pulmonary edema. The doctors have told them that she could die.

Please, friends, keep Lyndsay Powell in your prayers. Please pray for the doctors who are administrating to her - that they will use their knowledge to the best of their abilities, that God will be with them all, and if it His will, that Lyndsay can come back home to her sweet baby boy. Pray for the family and pray for Lyndsay - for strength and courage and peace.

It is URGENT that you PRAY NOW - please! For Heather, for Lyndsay, for sweet baby Seth!!!

Please Mention These in Prayer, Too!

Edit:

I just found out that a girl we knew back in Memphis who is very far in her pregnancy is in the hospital for observation for Pre-ecampsia and toxemia. She is 70% effaced and had protein in her urine. Please keep her and baby Presley in your prayers!

Original Post:

My grandmother (from here on referred to as 'Mimi', as that is what we call her) has diabetes. She generally gets low blood sugar in the early afternoon. Granddaddy Bob still works - about 30 to 45 minutes away from the house, so I very often worry about Mimi being home alone in a state of low blood sugar. Well, today my fears came to life and Mimi fell while trying to answer the phone in a state of low blood pressure (we think she tripped over the overly hyper dog). Mimi has a broken collar bone, completely separated, and may face surgery. She is going to call the Orthopedic doctor tomorrow to set up an appointment and see what they are going to do for her.

Please keep her in your prayers. She is 71 years old - and age plays a huge role in how a body recovers and heals, not to mention being a diabetic. Most likely my mother will be going to help out and I may also go to help for a while if I am needed. Please, please pray for her.

-------

Two more prayer requests: My cousins Brittany and Bobbie (sisters) are both pregnant! Brittany is 8 weeks pregnant and Bobbie is 3 weeks pregnant! I am so excited because Benjamin will have two (or more if one or the other has multiples!) cousins - albeit second cousins - only two hours away! Please keep them in your prayers - pray that the babies will grow into healthy precious babies, and pray that the pregnancies will be pleasant and void of all complications!

While you are at it, please just pray for all pregnant women and their beautiful babies. I have quite a few friends, Nikki who is having a girl very soon, Kelly who just found out this month she is having another boy, Stacia who just found out she's pregnant!, Kelly who is having a girl, Jennifer who has been blessed after 5 years of waiting!, and I am sure many more!

And let the onslaught of baby fever (for me) begin! It's already hard enough having pregnant friends and mommies of newborns online and in real life!

-------

Thank you for your prayers!! I am going to make a prayer list on the sidebar so we can all keep up with who needs prayers. If you have any to add, please e-mail them to me at bringingupbenjamin@yahoo.com.

Photogenic.

The great thing about having such a precious, adorable, beautiful, blonde-haired-blue-eyed, chubby-cheeked, ham-of-a child is that he is very, very photogenic and loves the camera.

Well ...

Most of the time.

Yesterday, dear little Benjamin was in one of his moods. I mean, if you can't already tell. And to be honest, due to his wake-up calls 5 times during the night, I was feeling a little cranky as well. To new moms (and experienced moms) who have babies waking them up through the night - I've really been feeling your pain lately. Benjamin has only slept through the night twice in his sweet little life, but usually he'll only wake up once or maybe twice... but lately it's been more around four or five times. Pretty much every hour after 2 or so.

Seriously.

Anyway ... so I've been keeping Mariah lately as I've already told you. Yesterday while Benjamin was napping, I decided to see if Mariah would sit for pictures. The lighting was off and I wasn't too fond of the shadows, but I did get a few pictures that I actually liked. We'll try again another day, but till then, I can share some of the ones I did like!

Reach for the stars!

Isn't she just adorable?

She really is one of the sweetest (busiest) babies!

I just love this girl! She is so much fun to play with and to keep.

-------

In other news, today is such a rainy day. We braved it and went out to the "big" city to get some shopping done and to get myself a haircut. We woke up to rain pouring down and it is still raining.

I got an e-mail from my dad this morning, he was trying to figure out how to put I guess a comment on my blog so he asked for me to just put this up for him:

Some things just happen ... we just happen to love our family! And it keeps getting bigger! Kristen is a wonderful example of how you can encourage others in what you say and do. We've been blessed to be a part of her life and the lives of those she brings near to us. We love you Kristen!!!!

Thanks, Dad! It means a lot! Love you!!

Weekend Review

You know, I have never been to a Trunk or Treat. Saturday we went out to a Fall Party with the intent in participating in a Trunk or Treat, but we weren't able to stay long enough for that. Benjamin was getting cranky (long day - we got up early and had a Yard Sale till 1PM) and I was actually pretty cold ... I meant to take more pictures but didn't really get the chance. Oh well. I'll share with you the few I did manage to get!

Here comes the big Halloween Costume Reveal!!

Ben's a little embarrassed...

but he makes the cutest little froggy!

He wasn't too fond of the mittens, though ...

He didn't wear this the whole time, but we did get him back into it because underneath he was only wearing thermal jammies and once the sun got lower and lower, it just kept getting colder and Ben needed something else to keep him warm! So on with the froggy costume! We were going to do a lamb costume - reason being I absolutely adore lambs and I wore lambie slippers during labor. Anyway - what sold me on this adorable froggy costume is the absolutely delicious green tweed! Can't you just eat that up?

Anyway, Hubby managed to have a bit of dangerous fun...

Do you see him?

On the mattress ... tied to the back of a 4-Wheeler. Yeah ... ahem. I told Benjamin I'd tell him all about his daddy when he was older. Shouldn't he be wearing a helmet, too?!

He survived, though, and I believe he wanted another go. But it was time to eat. Hotdogs and other goods, and what I liked best was the table of dessert goodies. I was absolutely pressured into eating Dawn's graveyard cake ... just kidding, Dawn, you can't pressure me into eating anything chocolate! No pressure needed! I am SO there!

That was our Saturday!

Sunday Benjamin and I stayed home from services because I was feeling ill and Benjamin was being extremely cranky after a very rough night. By Sunday evening we were both feeling a lot better and able to go out with Hubby to Byron where he was scheduled to preach. After that, we went out with our friends Chris and Kayla and their baby Mariah, the little baby I watch frequently during the week now.

Later I will do a post on what we did today, but right now I'm just trying to get caught up! I hope you all are having a great week beginning! Here is a small teaser - er, I mean preview, for my next post! Enjoy!

Baby, It's Fact.

Fact: There are hardly any pictures of Benjamin and myself floating around. It is hard to get in the shot when you're the main one behind the camera, isn't it?

Fact: Benjamin hardly ever sits still. Hardly. Ever.

Fact: Benjamin is obsessed with mouses (mice?) - the computer type.

Fact: We do have a mouse living in our house. What a louse!)

Fact: No, I could not resist the above.

Fact: I took some pictures of Benjamin and myself while Mariah was napping on Wednesday. By myself. Sitting at a desk. With a computer mouse to entertain Benjamin and keep him still.

Fact: I like collages.

Fact: I have green eyes. But not evil green like John Locke. (Reference for Hubby's entertainment)

Fact: I have a mole just ... there.

Fact: I have a huge range of genres that I listen to and enjoy. And I am also a frequenter of YouTube. I came across a song I really enjoyed while hubby and I were ... courting. Had to share! Enjoy (if it's your thing! I like it because it's so upbeat!)!

Dedicated to Mom and Dad

Today is a very special day. Today is my parents' 27th Wedding Anniversary! I wanted to dedicate a blog post solely to them because of this special day!

I love my parents so much. They mean so much to me, and have done so much for me in my nearly 21 years of life. I know some of you probably think your parents are the best, but I am going to go ahead and tell you that my parents take the cake (haha, you know I'm kidding with you folks)! To me, they have been more than I have ever wished for, more than I could have ever asked for, more than I could have ever deserved. They have sacrificed a lot for me. Most importantly they taught me the Word of God, and they were living examples of it! They taught me to do good and taught me how to take responsibility when I do make mistakes. I can only pray that we are as good parents to Benjamin as they were to me.

To my parents; I love you. I don't tell you enough and can't tell you enough how much you mean to me and how thankful I am to have been brought up in your household. I thank God for you daily. Thank you for teaching me and caring for me. Thank you for always opening your house up to us and being there when we need help or advice. Thank you for being arms to lean on, shoulders to cry on. I am so blessed to have parents like you, and Benjamin is so blessed to have grandparents like you - and I will make sure he knows it! Thank you for doing all you do - I could never list it all!

Most of all, thank you for loving me. Thank you for loving Carl as a member of our family. Thank you for loving Benjamin and being such wonderful Christian examples to the three of us daily in everything you do. Thank you for glorifying God in your lives!

I love you!!

Your daughter,
Kristen

(Okay y'all ... I am so blubbering!)

I dedicate this song to my parents:

Please Mention These in Prayer

I could never imagine how it would feel to lose my child. I could never imagine how it would feel to lose a grand child. A brother. A sister. A nephew. A niece.

Dearest friends, I am asking you to please pray for Dave and Deb Miller tonight - remember them in prayer. Their One Year Old grandson drowned today. Remember the parents of this sweet soul. Remember the family and loved ones. Please, say prayer for those whose hearts are breaking. Pray for the strength of the family, pray that they will lean on God.

It only takes a moment. Please mention them in prayer if you think of it.

To Moms of Multiples ...

I really, honestly don't see how you do it every day, 24/7. This goes for those who have any number (other than one) of young children ... wow! Today was my first day keeping both Benjamin and Mariah. Ben has just turned 9 months, and Mariah will be 9 months on Halloween. Since they are basically at the same developmental stages and both very into exploring, it was a task keeping an eye on the two of them. After bouts of jealousy from Benjamin, who is not used to sharing his mommy, the two went on a room exploration.

It was just so funny to watch the two interact. Mariah is definitely a leader, and Benjamin was happy to follow her around the room and do what she was doing. They would play and explore and talk to each other in their little baby jargon. It was as if they understood each other! It was so funny!

We had a pretty great day, actually. I'm pooped and I've stayed up too late (thank you Mountain Dew and your wellspring of caffeine that I could have used oh about six hours ago!), but today really was a great day. Mariah is a busy baby and she makes Ben a busy baby as well, but they had fun. She was so good, too! If they were both super needy babies I think it'd be different.

Anyway, that's how that went! I think in time Benjamin will get used to shared attention and the day will go even smoother. Now if we could only sort out nap time... any suggestions?

19.12 and 28

That is Benjamin's weight and height! 19.12 pounds - not much more than his last check up! He's surely been eating a lot but from that you can tell just how very active he is! He burns those calories like crazy! He is in his 40th percentile for his weight, and at 28 inches tall, he is in his 50th percentile! It has been a while since he has been at the 50th percentile, and he has never been below! I was surprised!

Benjamin also got two vaccines. He did so well! He only cried for a moment and after that he was just as happy as could be. And then we went over to another building to have his toe pricked to check his iron. He didn't even whimper! After a while he wanted to move around but he did really, really well.

After that, we went to my two favorite stores: Target and Hobby Lobby! We got stickers for our yard sale Saturday at Target, and Yarn and Fleece from Hobby Lobby. The yarn is for some dish scrubbers I am going to crochet for my mom's Christmas gift (don't worry - she knows about them. She asked for them specifically!), and the fleece is to cut into strips and put on top of Benjamin's prefolds in his cloth diapers. The prefolds have started rubbing and irritating him so his doctor suggested we do this. Hopefully it will help! If it doesn't, well I guess we will have to switch back to his pocket diapers solely!

Oh, I know a lot of you mamas may have been or are currently mulling over the decision of whether or not you should get the Flu shot for your child(ren). Well, since Benjamin has an egg allergy, it has been advised that he does not get the shot - so please pray that we all stay healthy here!

Am I boring you, too? Hehe.

That, by the way, is Benjamin's new winterwear. It got so cold here (of course it isn't as cold now that we've gotten him stuff to wear), so we had to go out and buy him a good hat and coat.

Tomorrow, Benjamin's friend Mariah is coming over. I am going to start watching her on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while Kayla works a new job. We are pretty excited to get to spend even more time with our precious friend! It should be an interesting adjustment in our house but I really do look forward to it!

Right now, Hubby and I are on separate laptops watching a movie, but as soon as that is over, I am heading to bed! I need to get my rest if I'm going to watch those two whirlwinds! I hope you all are having a fantastic week so far!

Benjamin, You Are 9 Months Old!

What a special day today is! I just can't get over the fact that you are 9 months old today, Benjamin! This is an extra special day because you spent 9 months (and five days) in my tummy, and now you've spent 9 months out here in our arms (and on the floors, and on the stairs, and ... everywhere)! How exciting and bizarre is that?? You have come SUCH a long way, don't you think?

You still have the 5 teeth from last month (you haven't knocked any out yet with all your spills!), and you just had your 6th tooth break through, the 7th right on it's tail! It's been a rough couple of days but you are a tough boy and you've been teething a lot better than I had ever imagined! Way to go! You are eating everything and anything now! You love crackers of all kinds ... you love chicken and turkey lunch meat. You no longer eat baby food - that stuff's for babies! You're a big boy now, or so you think!

I continue to be stopped in stores and have random people comment about how beautiful or pretty you are. We went to the Fair last weekend and so many people (vendors especially) couldn't help but to talk to us! You make mommy popular, and while I really doesn't like all that attention, I love to show you off at every opportunity! They also like to comment on how laid-back and calm you always seem. I say "seem" because you are so not like that at home! But we appreciate that you at least behave in public!

As for milestones ... you've been pretty impressive lately with cruising along the furniture. I'm just waiting for the moment you let go and just walk! You've stood by yourself a couple times! You love to wave at everyone when they come or go at the church building. Everyone just loves to see you wave and they aren't satisfied until you do! I think you only hold off for a while just so you can hold their attention longer! You can give high fives now, and I believe that is what you were doing yesterday morning during church while Uncle Preston was sitting behind us ... tsk tsk! You've also started blowing kisses (without the hand gesture - we're working on that), which is the sweetest thing!

As for your favorite games ... you love sharing your paci and anything else like cookies or crackers. Peek-a-Boo remains a favorite, and you have the cutest laugh I have ever heard! You like to chase mommy around downstairs and you like it when mommy comes to get you! When you see your friends (especially your friend Mariah), you just tackle them and can't get enough of them! I believe it's your way of giving hugs, but you have to remember to be gentle!

I can't wait to see what you do next! Then again, with your curiosity and passion for learning and figuring stuff out, I'm a little nervous, aren't you?

Thought so!

Blog Party!

Lynnette over at Dancing Barefoot on Weathered Ground has started a Blog Party! Woohoo! I am excited about meeting new bloggy friends and letting you all know a little bit more about me! So, here are my answers to the questionarre! I hope you all decide to join in, too!

1. What is your favorite thing to snack on while you're blogging?
- I guess I'd have to say Goldfish ... the cracker, not the animal.

2. What is one thing you wouldn't want to live without?
- Salvation!
3. Beach, Mountains or Farm? Where would you live if you had a choice?
- Mountains, I'd have to say! I remember going and spending some time in our family friends' cabin up near the Tallulah Falls in Georgia. I just love the smell of the fresh air ... and all that nature! Beauty!

4. What's your least favorite chore/household duty?
- "Least favorite" implies that I have a favorite ... which I don't ... but I guess if I were to choose the one I hate the most, it'd be cleaning the kitchen.
5. Who do people say you remind them of?
- My mom ... does that count?
6. Prefer parties and socializing or staying at home with the fam?
- Staying at home ... I am so not a party girl.
7. What's your all time favorite movie?
- Gone. With. The. Wind.

8. Do you sleep in your make up or remove it like a good girl every night?
- I'm a rebel ... I sleep in it and wash it off in the shower.
9. Do you have a hidden talent or a deep desire to learn something that you've never had a chance to learn? What is it?
- I am a self-taught crocheter. I'd love`to refine my "skills".

10. What's one strange thing you're really good at?
- Swatting flies ...
11. What first attracted you to your spouse?
- His love for God, and his blue eyes.
12. What is something you love to smell?
- Benjamin after a bath.
13. Tell something about you that you know irritates people.
- I am sooo forgetful.
14. When you have extra money (HA!) what's the first thing you think to do with it?
- I guess it depends on what we're needing at the time. If it were my choice alone, I'd save it for a D-SLR.
15. Are you a silent laugher or a loud laugher? What makes you laugh the hardest?
- I laugh out loud mostly ... and either Hubby or Benjamin make me laugh the hardest. Usually hubby.
16. Where is your favorite place to shop?
- Target!

17. What's one thing you'd do more often if you had more time?
- I'd crochet more, and read more.

18. Are you a big spender or frugal?
- Frugal
19. Who is your favorite character of all time (from a movie or book)?
- Winnie the Pooh ... who doesn't love him!?
20. Would you want to be famous?
- Hmm ... depends on what for. If my photography made me famous, oh yeah! If I finally got around to writing and publishing a book, OH yeah! Otherwise ... I don't think so!

So! That's it! I hope you all enjoyed that! A little later I will have Benjamin's 9 Month Post up! Look for it!
