Bible cover tutorial

I may or may not be addicted to sewing.

Last night I decided I was going to sew a cover for my Bible... and so this morning, that is exactly what I did.

And since I didn't use a tutorial or pattern, and since I decided to make another cover for my smaller Bible, I created a tutorial to share with you all.

Introducing, my very first sewing tutorial!

This morning, I slacked off

But in my defense, it was a very productive morning of slacking off. I should have been packing up essentials for our trip next week. Yes, that is what I should have been doing. I have packed a lot through out the week but I'm not done yet... and I need to be sometime before Sunday...

Why pack when I can slack off and sew?

I had a huge urge to create something else with a super easy tutorial from calico. I have a lot of fabric left over from my other endeavors, so I decided to make a coordinating diaper strap to hold Benjamin's diapers in the diaper bag. I love having an organized diaper bag. I wish my house was as organized! Well, we can't have our cake and eat it too, now can we? {That's what I'm going to tell myself anyway}

So after I had already cleaned up all my sewing stuff from yesterday, I hauled it all out again. And I created this:

Awesome, right? I thought so too. Not perfect, of course, as it is only my third project! But I am really happy with how it turned out. FYI, It is hard to sew through velcro by hand. So I glued my button on after doing some stitching. Is that deceitful? Well if anyone asks, I'll totally tell the truth.

Oh and if anyone is wondering, yes, we still cloth diaper. But we do use disposable on vacations. That's just how we roll.

Anyway, I think I'm still slacking off. I mean, I am writing a blog post about what I did while slacking off!

Keep little Benjamin in your prayers please. He is teething and he is suffering from allergies and the poor little guy is just not happy with the combination. Right now he is conked out in his crib and who knows how long he will sleep! But he needs that rest!

Thanks!

Labeled.

I totally made that.

I feel so accomplished! It isn't perfect, but I did it. I whipped my sewing machine into shape.

I used this tutorial.

The reason for making a luggage tag for my diaper bag is because during the upcoming Lectureship, they are asking for everything to be labeled. Ta-da! Labeled.

The first blur is our last name, and the second is my cell number, just so ya know.

sew geeky

I decided last night that I will no longer let my big Christmas gift from years ago go to waste. My mom bought me a nice {not TOO nice, though... sometimes I'd rather not have a piece of technology that thinks for me} sewing machine when I expressed interest in the hobby. Well, I tried last year to sew up some diapers for Benjamin when the elastic gave out, and that was the first time I used the machine. And today was the second.

Last night I cleared a place in the laundry room for my machine and today I dusted it off and began my first ever actual sewing {not repairing} project. We went out to town yesterday and I bought material from Hobby Lobby - 2 prints - with the intent of making a luggage tag. But I wanted to start off with something a little simpler, so I decided to make a camera strap slipcover for my camera, using this tutorial.

After tracing and cutting and folding and ironing, I found out that I couldn't thread my machine correctly, and then couldn't find the manual.

Two YouTube videos and 45 minutes {yes, I know. and no, I'm not exaggerating} later, I finally got things working and this is the product of my labor:

That was before I clipped some of the stray threads. So, what do you think? I think it looks pertay good for my first go.

Other than that, today I have cleaned a bit {not as much as yesterday by any means} and have food in the crock pot for Lost Night tonight. For all you Losties, here's a question. Do you have a Lost shirt? {Insert joke: I did but then I found it - ba da ting!} Hubby ordered one for me last night... I won't spoil the surprise but it's pretty awesome. And here I was raggin' on the old Hubs for being a massive geek and buying a Lost shirt...

So either he is normal or I'm also a massive geek. Which do you think?

Yeah, me too.

normal Massive Geek.
